I Would Describe Myself As
I'm pretty easy to laugh with and embrace life's challenges with love and acceptance. I enjoy the simplicity of life. The outdoor adventures, spur of the moment trips, close friendships and home gatherings. My love of family and close relationships foster purpose. It’s “what” it’s all about for me.
When we love someone, we open ourselves up to potential suffering. That's the reality. Maybe they'll break your heart. Those are the risks. That's the burden.
Like wings, wings have weight. We feel the weight of those wings on our back. They are a burden that lift us. Burdens that allow us to fly. Trust vulnerability. Even if it becomes a burden after sharing your journey with those who cannot embrace your truth. When you find those who carry your burdens they are those who give you the freedom to fly.
Maya Angelo stated in an interview in 1973 "You are only free when you realize you belong no place—you belong every place and no place at all. The price is high. The reward is great." Brené Brown interpreted this as "We confuse belonging with fitting in, but the truth is that belonging is just in our heart, and when we belong to ourselves and believe in ourselves above all else, we belong everywhere and nowhere."
Be true to yourself. These are those I surround myself with. I believe I'm a good person. Not perfect and will never claim to be. I believe in being kind, always. Seeing the best in people. Rooting for the underdog. I'm just as comfortable sitting with the homeless handing them my to-go container while listening to their story as I am in an evening gown at a hospital gala for a dedication. (I spent years in the medical field as a HH and Hospice administratior) Currently I am an Executive Director for a Senior Living Community. I believe we are on this earth to uplift one another and serve our fellow man. I believe in God. I live the principles I believe in. They provide comfort, guidance and direction. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I was raised on the East coast. I love the ocean and the sense of tranquility it brings to me. You could say the ocean was my playground growing up. It's pretty much what we did every day, all summer long. I've been a distance runner for decades. It's free therapy. I love running in the mountains off the grid on logging roads. Or the beach. Some of the best memories I've ever made with close friends have been the years we would run Hood to Coast. I enjoy a balanced healthy lifestyle. Every now and then that sweet tooth gets the best of me. Everything in moderation, right? The Italian in me buckles under the pressure at times ;) I love to bake and cook.
What am I looking for? I know, and when I find him, he'll know too. I believe romance is not dead. We can create the life we dream of. It takes hard work, commitment, patience, kindness, vulnerability, trust, laughter and forgiveness. Anything that is worth having is worth those sacrifices it takes to achieve. Relationships are no different.
I spent 8 years in the South. I fell in love with them Southerns. I ate grits and shrimp (barely:) saw sunsets I'll never forget, experienced tail gating, bbq, football, (War Eagle:) and southern charm like none other, danced with the Vets who stormed the beaches of Normandy before being welcomed back into heaven. There’s a part of me that will forever be a Southern girl. I’ve been granted the privilege of a career that allows opportunities so close to heaven there is no denying heaven exists. Walking beside the terminally ill has taught me more about life than any lecture, conference or CME I’ve ever attended.
Confucius taught “ We have two lives. The second one begins when we realize we only have one”
Live the good life. Be good to one another. Share the meal with a stranger. Hike the mountains. Have the BBQ’s. Play cards. Take the trips. Listen to the elderly. Make the time for those that matter most.
You only have one life.
